Left Party MP Ilona Szatmári Waldau has apologised for sending a letter of support to a Palestinian terrorist jailed in Israel, saying the letter was part of a letter-writing campaign by Swedish MPs and that those who had committed terror crimes should have been excluded. "In December I wrote a letter to a Palestinian prisoner as part of a campaign where several MPs wrote letters of support to Palestinian prisoners," Ilona Szatmári Waldau wrote on Facebook. "None of the prisoners were supposed to have carried out violence against civilians or have human lives on their conscience. In this case, the fact-checking was flawed, which is not acceptable. I have taken down the post. Terrorism and violence against civilians is not something I support or encourage." Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar told the Aftonbladet newspaper that she supported Ilona Szatmári Waldau. "What she wanted to say is that they should have a just trial according to the Geneva convention. I feel very comfortable with her values." Join the conversation in our comments section below.
