Wales golden girls Emma Finucane and Anna Morris win the Commonwealth Games battle of Britain by defeating English rivals in Glasgow.

Wales golden girls Emma Finucane and Anna Morris won the Commonwealth Games battle of Britain by defeating England in Glasgow. Finucane won her second gold in two nights as she eased to team sprint success against Sophie Capewell, while Morris beat Josie Knight in the 4,000m individual pursuit final. There was further drama for Morris, who finished second in the scratch race just over an hour after her gold medal race before she was demoted to fifth. With Rhian Edmunds picking up a surprise bronze in the sprint, Wales have won six medals on the opening two nights at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, three of them gold. "These Games have been the highlight of my career alongside the Olympics," said Finucane. "We've had Anna winning today and pulled it through. I believe it's the passion and belief we have." After adding individual sprint to team success, she became the first Welsh woman to win two golds at the same Commonwealth Games since athlete Kirsty Wade in 1986 in Edinburgh. Based on this domination, there will be further podium finishes to come in Scotland, with Finucane still due to take part in the time trial and keirin in the next two days.
